If you're a rookie camper, I suggest keeping it simple. Hotdogs, burgers, sandwiches, mayo, ketchup, mustard, salt/pepper, chips, etc. Cooking outside or over a campfire is always the best! Don't forget marshmallows!
Toothbrushes, toothpaste, SUNBLOCK. We stock some plastic plates and utensils, but you may need more. (I didn't come camping to do dishes), foil, baggies, soap, shampoo.
Pillows (we don't supply), maybe a blanket (we have some, but you may want your own), your clothes, (they're usually not optional).
You'll meet the nicest people while camping. If you forget something, chances are your neighbors have it, and will be happy to share!
Bring extra clothes, towels (we do stock some bath towels and rags), and shoes. Kids will get shoes muddy and clothes wet. Everyone will need a lake towel and a shower towel.
Don't pack your cooler too full, more ice the better. More than likely it'll be hot when your camping. I've learned packing coolers the night before and adding more ice the morning of the trip works well.
We provide some chairs, but if you have a favorite bring it.
Lots of campgrounds have horseshoe pits, bring your shoes. Cornhole and ladderball are favorites at the lake.
Everyone loves a campfire but make sure you put it out before going inside. It only takes a couple minutes and Smokey the Bear will be pleased.
Don't forget the coffee.
Avoid sudden movements when towing if possible. Gradual acceleration, wide turns, slower lane changes… remember that your vehicle is essentially a lot longer and heavier than normal.
It’s always a good habit to do a quick inspection each time you’re stopped on your trip. You never know when you might catch something, that would have been a problem out on the road.
Give more room on the road than you normally would. You’re pulling more weight and it might take longer to slow down or stop.
Nobody likes rush hour, but it’s particularly interesting when towing a camper. Take some time to plan ahead and avoid high traffic times. You’ll have a much more enjoyable road trip.
You’re on vacation, so what’s the hurry? You’ll get better gas mileage at lower speeds, and besides, it’s just the safer way to go when you’re towing.
Check your tire pressure often and try to always run near the maximum recommended pressure. It’s safer and you’ll save some gas.
This is common sense for any long distance driving. If you’re tired, just pull over and take a rest.
It’s absolutely critical that you can see around your vehicle. Make sure to check your mirrors before you get on the road to ensure everything to the side and behind you is visible.
Backing up with a trailer is tricky but not impossible. Go slow, put your hand on the bottom of the wheel and move it in the direction you want the trailer to move. Have your passengers get out and spot you. The best strategy is to just avoid situations where you’ll need to back up, but if you have to, just take your time and you’ll do fine.
Level is inside the door of the camper.
Level side to side first. Most sites are usually pretty level. Blocks provided are as simple as stacking Lego's.
Install wheel chalks as shown. In front and back of tire. This help stabilize the camper too.
Level is inside the door of the camper. Make sure camper wheel chalks are in place first. Unhook camper. Then level front to back with Tongue Jack.
All our campers have some version of this stabilizing jack. Using the tool provided, lower the jack to the ground. These need to be fairly snug, but they are not made to lift the camper. It prevents the camper from moving as much when people are moving around inside.
Hook up the water. Always use the white hose for camper connection. We provide the hose and pressure regulator.
When you get to campground, you will find an electrical box such as this. Shut off all breakers, plug in the camper, then turn breakers on.
Turn on your A/C, water heater, & RELAX!!
Setup is now complete!
